LG has finally laid out its plan for upgrading its existing smartphones with Android’s latest, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0. The announcement was made through the company’s official Facebook page, with a list of devices and when we should begin to expect those upgrades to roll out. Check to see if your LG mobile device is going to be one of the first to get the upgrade.

On LG’s Facebook page, the company has made it clear that Ice Cream Sandwich will be initially available for higher-end smartphones that were released into the market in 2011.

Several of its 2011 models will be receiving ICS starting in the second quarter of next year. After that, going into the third quarter of 2012, we should start to see the Android 4.0 update roll out to a second list of devices. Check out the lists below to see if your device made the cut.

In the second quarter of 2012 we should start to see the ICS update roll out to these LG devices:
  • LG Optimus LTE
  • Prada 3.0
  • Optimus 2X
  • Optimus Sol
  • myTouch Q
  • LG Eclipse

Going into the third quarter of 2012, we should start to see these LG Optimus devices getting the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade treatment:
  • Optimus 3D
  • Optimus Black
  • Optimus Big
  • Optimus Q2
  • Optimus EX

LG has also stated that they are assessing whether the ICS update will be compatible with other handsets that are not included in the Android 4.0 update plans. So if you don’t see your mobile device up on LG’s list, don’t get your hopes up there is still a slight chance you might get the update. I just wouldn’t hold my breath, some LG customers are still upset at how long it took to get Gingerbread, while other customers still haven’t even received Gingerbread on their LG handsets.

Hopefully LG will be able to do a better job with Android’s latest update this time around, to make up for what it has not done in the past. Is your device on the list? Are you excited for the Android update? Do you think the upgrade is coming way too late in the year for LG devices? Let us know in the comments section below.
