Many rumors have been floating around lately about Apple releasing its latest tablet, the iPad 3. Some reports are saying the next tablet will be announced early next month and feature some nice hardware upgrades, including the long awaited retina display.

To date, the iPad remains at the top of the tablet market, with more than 40 million iPads sold, Apple would like to keep it that way. The only way they are going to be able to stay king of the tablet world, is if Apple keeps advancing on what this amazing tablet can do.

Apple’s iPad 3 event, is rumored to be announced the first week of march at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. This is the same place Apple released the iPad 2 in early March of last year. If true, the iPad 3 should be available in stores about a week after the announcement.

There have been many rumors going around about what features the next iPad will be sporting. Some of the most talked about specs the new iPad is rumored to have will be a better display, a faster processor (maybe quad-core?), better graphics overall and LTE 4G speeds. The next iPad tablet could also have a bigger battery for longer life and hopefully an upgraded camera sensor.

Here is a concept picture of what the iPad 3 might look like and feature, spec wise.

The iPad 3 is rumored to have Apple’s famous retina display that is currently featured on the iPhone 4 and 4S models. If true, the next iPad will have a 2048×1024 display resolution, which would make it twice that of the iPad 2′s screen.

The next iPad will also run a new A6 processor, the new chip will supposedly consume less power while still being able to be significantly faster than the A5 CPU chip found in the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. The A6 chip is still not known if it will be dual-core or quad-core. Some say if the A6 chip is still dual-core, the next iPad might be announced as an iPad 2S. If true, Apple might start rolling out the iPad yearly upgrades just like the iPhone, with every other year being the big jump in features.

Most rumors indicate the iPad 3 will look similar to the iPad 2, which might be true when looking at the pictures RepairLabs has released. The leaked photos of the next iPad (below), show what the iPad 3’s back side is supposed to look like.

RepairLabs has also added some observations, when comparing it to the iPad 2:
  1. You can see here that the mounts for the logic board are very different, which means the logic board shape will be different allowing for . . . .
  2. More battery. The width of where the logic board sits on the iPad 2 appears much larger than that of the iPad 3. We have long heard that the iPad 3 was going to provide longer battery life, and this back housing seems to support that.
  3. The camera is different. It is hard to make a judgment just by looking at the casing, but what we can expect is a different camera on the iPad 3 than what we had on the 2.
  4. LCD will be different than what we have had before. Whether or not it will be the super screen we have seen reported will have to wait. But the different mounting does mean that the LCD has been redesigned at the very least.

The current iPad really lacks in the camera department, so the next iPad will most likely get a much needed camera upgrade. By looking at the picture above, it seems Apple is leaving a larger spot for the camera sensor, hopefully something along the lines of the iPhone 4S, with an 8-megapixel camera sensor. Reports coming in from iLounge also indicate Apple’s next tablet will feature a high-definition front-facing camera for FaceTime HD video chat, similar to what Apple’s new Mac’s have.

Most likely if your in the market for a new iPad, it might be a good idea to wait a bit. If you already have an iPad and want to sell it, in order to upgrade to the new iPad 3, it might be a good idea to start thinking about listing your old iPad on ebay before the prices start to drop.
