If rumors are true, HTC is working hard to be the “first” to inject a quad-core Tegra 3, CPU processor chip into its next premium smartphone.

Looking at leaked pictures that were sent to PocketNow. The HTC Edge looks almost identical to the just-unveiled HTC Rezound handset, which is being released on November 14. There are also many similarities with the leaked specs, when comparing to the Rezound. Such as 1GB of RAM, 8-megapixel camera with an Aperture of F/2.2, and will even feature the same Beats Audio technology.

All those features are fine and dandy, but this is where HTC gets serious and the similarities end. What will most likely be the successor to the Rezound, The Edge is supposed to support a quad-core Tegra 3 CPU from Nvidia. This new processing chip will offer four 1.5GHz cores, try comparing that to the dual-core processor in the Rezound. If the HTC Edge does come with a Tegra 3 CPU, it will have amazing laptop speeds within a 10mm thick smartphone.

The HTC Edge will also have a whopping 4.7-inch display, while the Rezound only has a 4.3-inch screen. It will also most likely have 32GB of internal storage, Bluetooth 4.0 and be the first to feature HTC’s Sense 4.0. There was no mention of LTE 4G, however 21Mbps HSPA+ did seem to have made the cut.

The body of the HTC Edge and HTC Rezound look very much alike in the pictures below:

According to Pocketnow the HTC Edge will be released in the first quarter of next year or early in the second quarter.

With smartphones getting smarter and faster by the day, should phone manufactures worry about processing speed rather than battery life? Are you excited to see a smartphone finally keeping up with a laptop computer? Do you think the battery life on this beast will be horrible, considering the quad-core processor and the 4.7-inch screen? Let us know your thoughts down below.
