If your in the market for a new Nintendo 3DS, you might want to hold off until August 12. Nintendo will be cutting the price of its latest handheld gaming system from $249.99 to 169.99.

The price drop is due to the fact that the Nintendo 3DS has failed to meet the strong sales Nintendo has had in the past with the DS, DS Lite, and the DSi. The Nintendo 3DS has sold more than 830,000 units in the US, and 4 million worldwide. 4 million units is nothing when you compare that to the Nintendo DS console, which last year alone sold more than 27 million units.

If you are one of the 4 million that has already bought the
Nintendo 3DS or just cant wait until after August 12 to experience glasses-free 3D gaming, Nintendo has already thought about you guys. If you already have a 3DS all you need to do is sign in to Nintendo’s eShop using a broadband Internet signal at least once before 11:59PM ET on August 12. After that you will automatically be registered into the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program. The program will include some Nintendo goodies.

Beginning September 1, Nintendo 3DS Ambassadors will be able to download 10 NES Virtual Console games at no charge before they are available to the general public. These games will include:
  • Super Mario Bros
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • Balloon Fight
  • Ice Climber
  • The Legend of Zelda

Then towards the end of 2011, Nintendo will give 10 Game Boy Advance Virtual Console games to customers in the Ambassador program. The games will include :
  • Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3
  • Mario Kart: Super Circuit
  • Metroid Fusion
  • WarioWare
  • Inc.: Mega Microgame$
  • Mario vs. Donkey Kong.

These last 10 games will be available exclusively to Ambassadors, Nintendo has no plans to release these games to the general public. Thats a whopping 20 games for free, if you already have a Nintendo 3DS. Those of you that want to buy a 3DS, now have a big choice to make. Either wait and get the $80 price drop or buy now and get 20 free games Which 10 of them will be only downloadable to the early adopters that paid the original $249.99 for the unit and are part of
Ambassador program. What will you choose?
